Think of a car. We know that a misalignment in a car causes problems. When a car is out of alignment, there's unnecessary wear and tear on the tires and extra engine stress. A car can't run at its best because it's not designed to have one tire higher than the others and another one tilted too far to the outside. The initial problems may be minor, so minor that you may be able to compensate for them by driving a little differently. Maybe slower, cautiously, or just less and less. However, the misalignment is making a difference in how the car is running.
And just as the car needs to be checked and maintained, you need the same courtesy. Only for you, the key element is proper alignment of your spine. Your spine is the major support for your entire body. When the bones of your back are not aligned it creates stress and extra wear and tear. You may not have the same range of motion or mobility. You may also feel the stress on your body in terms of fatigue, sleeping problems, or headaches. Your misalignment can also cause conflicts with nerves leading to internal organs.
Misalignments, called subluxations, can happen because of stresses in everyday activities like housework, gardening, desk work, and improper lifting. Sleeping "the wrong way", accidents (especially car accidents or falls) and sports activities can also cause misalignments. In children, subluxations can occur during the birth process, in play, or from playground falls and bike or skateboard tumbles. Misalignments, even small misalignments, if not corrected early, can carry on into adulthood.
Like the car misalignment, most people don't even realize the issue. Some people mask the pain by taking over-the-counter pain relievers. However, a spinal misalignment is actually placing an unhealthy amount of pressure on the spinal nerves. This pressure is what causes headaches, back pain, neck stiffness, pain in the shoulders, arms or legs, and numbness in the hands or feet. The spinal misalignment can also cause someone to feel tired and anxious and have a negative effect on both work and relationships with friends and family.
Spinal misalignments can also be the root cause of:
- poor concentration
- frequent minor illness
- digestive and circulatory problems
Chiropractic care helps:
- your physical and mental well-being
- improve your appearance and stamina
- give you confidence.
Subluxations can be corrected through small adjustments to your spine. If the subluxations have been present a short time, you may only need a few adjustments. However, long-term, chronic subluxations may require more frequent adjustments to retrain the problem areas of the spine and hold the vertebrae in their normal, healthy positions.
